Why I Keep Coming Back to the Vine Pullover
I'm so happy to share with you another Vine Pullover! This marks the third time I've knitted this pattern, and I must say, it never gets old. I just love the stunning cable details on the sleeves, and the pattern is so versatile!
Expanding the Size Range - and Melanie’s Generosity
As some of you may know, Melanie, the designer behind the Vine Pullover, was working on expanding the size range for this stunning pattern, from the children's version up to teen size. I immediately jumped at the opportunity to test knit the teen version, as my eldest son, Julian, was always eyeing the one I made for Anna and wanted one for himself.
However, by the time Melanie had extended the sizes, Julian had already grown out of the original range and needed an adult size. I was worried that I might not be able to make one for him, but Melanie was incredibly kind and generous. She took the time to do some calculations and worked her magic specifically for me, allowing me to knit the garment in Julian's size.

I'm so grateful for Melanie's kindness and willingness to help. It's not often that designers go above and beyond like that, and I feel lucky to always have the opportunity to work on her stunning new designs with her.
Customizing Julian’s Pullover
When it came to knitting Julian's Vine Pullover, I wanted to make sure it was not only comfortable but also versatile. He asked me if it would be possible to knit it with more positive ease, so that it would be comfortable to wear.

I also wanted to knit it with stripes, because I love how stripes can add visual interest to a garment, and I knew it would be a great way to make Julian's pullover stand out even more.
I chose the yarn from Lana Grossa Natural Alpaca Classico in the colorway 101 white and 108 black. I wanted the colors to be neutral so that they would match to any outfit he wants to wear.
Making Adjustments
Knitting this pullover wasn’t without its challenges. The yarn I used was thinner than DK weight, which made achieving the correct row gauge tricky. To address this, I made a few adjustments:
- After completing the yoke increases, I knitted an additional 5 rounds to reach the desired yoke measurement.
- My son's arm length from underarm to wrist is 54 cm. I made decreases every 12 rows, for a total of 10 times.
- I began the stripes right after separating the body from the sleeves, knitting 5 rounds in black followed by 15 rounds in white.
- For the neckline bind-off, I worked a yarn over for every purl stitch.
Final Measurements and Results
Final measurements after blocking:
-
Body width: 102 cm
-
Sleeve length: 54 cm
-
Body length from underarm: 44 cm
I can highly recommend the yarn from Lana Grossa. It is incredibly soft and warm, and it looks amazing! I worked the sweater with a 20-stitch gauge and 4.5 mm needles. The sweater has a really nice drape and looks absolutely stunning!
I am really happy with how this sweater turned out, and my son is wearing it a lot because it has become his favorite in his wardrobe.
I wish you a wonderful day filled with knitting and joy!
Until then, happy knitting!
