Losing My Knitting Mojo - and How I Found It Again
Sometimes, we lose our knitting mojo. It happens. Before I stumbled upon a stunning pattern from Petite Knit, I was in a bit of a slump. I just wasn't feeling the knitting vibes. I think it was because I'd taken on too many test knits at once. Having to force myself to knit, even when I didn't want to, really zapped my motivation.
Then one day, while scrolling through Instagram, I saw it: the newly released Christmas Caramels pattern - a free pattern from Petite Knit! And I was in love! My knitting motivation came rushing back! I immediately envisioned making them in white and red with a golden touch. I even wanted to try a swirl version, just for fun!

The Joy of Creating Christmas Caramels
I had so much fun making these caramels. From buying the yarn from Lang Yarns to chatting with the owner of my local yarn store, every part of the process was enjoyable.
To give my caramels a bit of a personal touch, I made a few modifications to the pattern. Instead of 8 rounds for the twisted wrap, I knitted 10 rounds. I also played around with the diagonal swirl pattern, which is done with colorwork. In each row, you shift the color by one stitch. For example:
- Row 1: 2 red, 2 white... until the end of the row, ending with 2 white.
- Row 2: 1 white, 2 red... until the end of the row, ending with 1 white.
- Row 3: 2 white, 2 red... and so on.
I worked on my Christmas Caramels with a 4.00 mm (US size 6) needle size and used bulky weight yarn. If you’re looking for festive knitting ideas, this pattern is a great way to experiment with colorwork and add a personal touch to your holiday projects.
Adding Small Details for Big Impact
If you want to learn how to add a single chrochet border, you can read about it in this blog post. Adding small details like this can elevate your hand-knitted Christmas decorations and make them truly unique.
I loved planning out my project and watching it come together. Time flew by as I worked on it, and it really reignited my passion for knitting. These PetiteKnit Christmas Caramels reminded me why I love creating handmade holiday decor.

A Ravelry Surprise: Featured on the Front Page!
After finishing, I posted my caramels on Instagram and Threads, added the finishing touches to my Ravelry project page, and didn’t think much of it. A few days later, I went back to update my Ravelry project page for my zipper sweater and noticed something surprising: my Christmas Caramels project had a ton of likes! I was puzzled at first, then it hit me... but I didn’t want to get too excited until I saw it with my own eyes.

And there they were! My Christmas Caramels were featured on the front page of Ravelry! I couldn’t believe it. I even asked my husband to double-check on his computer, just to be sure. I was absolutely overjoyed! I never imagined my project would make it to the front page. It was a truly happy moment.

Sparking Creativity and Joy
Looking back, the Christmas Caramels pattern taught me that sometimes, all it takes is a little spark to reignite our passion for knitting again. Whether it’s a new pattern, a different yarn, or a fresh perspective, there are always ways to find inspiration and excitement in our craft. These festive knitting patterns are a perfect example of how a simple project can bring so much joy.
If you’re looking for beginner-friendly knitting patterns or festive holiday projects, I highly recommend trying the PetiteKnit Christmas Caramels. They’re fun, quick to make, and add a cozy, handmade touch to your holiday decor.
Until then, happy knitting!

yours are beautiful!!
Hello Karen, thank you so much for your kind comment!
Needle size and number of stitches would be great
Hi Judy, thank you for your comment! I worked on my Christmas Caramels with a 4.00 mm (US size 6) needle and followed the pattern from PetiteKnit. It’s a free pattern, and I’ve included a direct link to it in the post. I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did!
Actually, as an avid knitter, I know that we can all hit slumps – usually caused by deadlines or “commitment-knitting”. Your pattern was the cure for you, and I understand why. It is fun, adorable, and versatile. I give hand knit ornaments to my 6 grandchildren each year, and this will be my 2025 ornament. I will do some in green and white for a wintergreen feel
Thank you so much for your kind words, Carol! You are absolutely right – deadlines can really drain your motivation, especially if they’re too short. I love your tradition! Your grandchildren will surely love your ornaments!
You have done a wonderful job and I love your color choices and extra embellishment! Would you please tell me what material the gold is and how you added it? I would love to knit these! Thank you!
Hello Jennifer, thank you so much for your kind words! For the gold, I used the Ricorumi Lame Gold 002 yarn. I added it by making a single crochet border around the cast-on and bind-off edges. After reading your comment, I decided to write a blog post about it — you can find it linked in this blog or under “Knitting Basics.”
For the long golden band, I made a chain with 100 crocheted stitches and wrapped it around a few times. I hope this helps!
They look perfect! Do you know approx how long it took you to make 1? Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m not exactly sure how long each one took, but I was able to finish four in a single day. They really are quick and fun to knit.
