About me

Hello! I’m Sarah, a 37-year-old knitter making my home in Austria with my husband, our three wonderful kids, and two quirky guinea pigs.

Knitting wasn’t always my passion. As a child, I dreaded those mandatory school handicraft projects. Whenever knitting was assigned, I’d run to my grandmother for help. She always finished my projects, and our teacher, who clearly recognized my granny’s handiwork, still gave us an A for her beautiful stitches. I honestly disliked knitting (and crochet) for many years.

Everything changed in 2019. When I was pregnant with our third child, my husband suddenly became seriously ill. What started as a sharp stomach ache turned out to be severe appendicitis. After his appendix was removed, things only got worse, persistent pain, high inflammation, and a second hospital visit revealed a perforation in his small intestine caused by Crohn’s disease. He was operated on just in time. The trauma of this experience, mixed with pregnancy hormones and all the uncertainty, left me anxious and deeply shaken.

In that difficult time, a friend gave me a crochet hook and invited me to try her favorite hobby. From that moment, creating with yarn became my way to cope. Soon after, I found myself longing not just to crochet, but to knit, sweaters, hats, mittens, you name it. I taught myself the craft and haven’t stopped since. Knitting has truly been a source of healing for my soul.

A Few of My Favorite Things

  • Cooking and baking, especially after learning how to make my own sourdough starter in November 2023; nothing beats the smell of fresh bread!

  • Spending time outdoors: walking in the forest, cycling, or swimming in the lake

  • Knitting, crocheting, and (admittedly) buying more yarn than I need

  • Reading good books and listening to podcasts

  • Most importantly: being a mum

Starting this blog is a dream I’ve put off for years out of self-doubt. English isn’t my first language, but at some point you have to begin if you want to share your story. So, thank you for your patience with any little mistakes, I’m just excited to finally be here.

What I will share on this blog

On this blog, you’ll find detailed, ad-free knitting tutorials like a full sock course, honest yarn reviews, and plenty of inspiration for all skill levels. My mission is to share helpful, free resources and build a friendly community where knitters can learn, create, and connect, no social media required!

I also share all my knitting projects on Ravelry and offer a selection of tutorials on YouTube. You won’t find me on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or X - I firmly believe that stepping away from social media helps nurture real creativity, protects mental health, and lets me focus on the things that truly matter.

"Doing something creative with your hands is healing energy."
