Knitting with Black Yarn: Tips for Better Visibility
May 7, 2025Darjeeling Top: A Dreamy Knitting Project with Stunning Lace Details
Originally published on May 3, 2025
If you’ve been following my blog, you already know that when I fall in love with a pattern, I cast it on immediately. So, when I stumbled across the Darjeeling Top knitting pattern by Trust the Mojo, I knew I had to knit it - especially since I already had the perfect yarn at home.
I purchased Sandnes Garn Line in colorway 1015 Kitt years ago, and over time, I’ve used it in several projects - all frogged. Let me take you through my yarn’s journey and how the Darjeeling Top finally became the piece I’m most proud of.
The Yarn’s Journey
Before the Darjeeling Top, this yarn went through quite the adventure:
Lydia 2.0 by Courtney Little
Back when I was still a beginner, I decided to challenge myself with something way above my skill level. Lace knitting patterns are really challenging because you have to work so many knitting techniques at once. Instead of knitting it in the round, I chose to knit it flat and sew the pieces together. As you can imagine, getting through the lace pattern was tough. I finished one side but lost motivation for the second - so I unraveled it. But now that I’m much more experienced, I’ll definitely give it another try this summer - and this time, I’ll knit it in the round!
Summer Dahlian from Le Knit
I made good progress on this lace knitting project too, but I ran out of yarn before finishing. Instead of buying more, I unraveled it. (I sometimes wonder why I made that choice!)
Big Chain Top from Hinterm Stein
This one I actually finished - but I didn’t love the final result. So yes… I unraveled it too.
So, as you can see, the yarn went through quite a journey before it found its goal ;)

Rediscovering My Knitting Mojo
To be honest, I hadn’t felt like knitting much lately. I wasn’t inspired by any patterns, but I believe every knitter goes through these phases. When the knitting mojo is gone, nothing feels exciting, and everything seems either too hard or not worth starting.
One of my big intentions for 2025 was to fill my Knitting Basics Category, so I focused on that instead. During this time, I also finished one pair of socks and two bookmarks, small but satisfying projects that kept me gently connected to my craft.
And then, while browsing Pinterest, I stumbled across the Darjeeling Top knitting pattern by Trust the Mojo - and something just clicked. I thought, “I really want to knit this.” From casting on to weaving in the very last end, this project brought back the joy of knitting in a way that felt like it was made just for me.
Knitting with a Friend
I knit the Darjeeling Top over Easter while visiting my best friend. We both have busy lives, especially since her child is also autistic and going through puberty, which can be even more challenging. I know from personal experience how tough that journey can be.
So, when we finally got to sit face-to-face again, I was beyond grateful. And knitting a little on the Darjeeling Top during that visit made the experience even more special. You know I’m that friend who always has a knitting project in her bag.
Why I Love This Pattern
I absolutely love this pattern, I couldn’t put it down! Here’s why:
-
Stunning Lace Details: The lacework is breathtaking and adds a touch of elegance to the top.
-
Well-Written Instructions: The designer provides clear and detailed instructions, which makes the process smooth and enjoyable.
-
Helpful Checklist: One of my favorite features is the checklist included for every size and row. This kind of detail is rare in patterns and such a great idea, it keeps you organized and confident as you go.
The Checklist, I blurred it out a little bit to hide a few pattern details, but I think you get what I mean
The Knitting Experience
The lace pattern is really easy and was quick to memorize. I worked the long version, so it fits perfectly with jeans or over a dress. For the Provisional cast-on, I used the method where you work over a spare cord - it’s simple, fast, and effective! If you’re curious about this technique, I actually made a tutorial on it, so check it out if you’d like to learn more.
Here are a few modifications I made to personalize the top:
-
Straps: I used the Kitchener stitch for a seamless finish.
-
Edging: Instead of picking up stitches, I added an applied I-cord edging for a clean, polished look.
-
Buttons: I chose 2cm buttons - they’re the perfect size for both function and style.
I chose 2cm wooden buttons!

Tips for Making the Most of This Pattern
If you decide to try the Darjeeling Top knitting pattern , here are some tips to help you along the way:
-
Use the designer’s checklist to stay organized - it’s a game-changer!
-
Don’t shy away from making modifications. Knitting is all about creating something that feels personal and perfect for you.
-
Take your time with the lace details - they’re what make this top truly stunning. I placed a stitch marker in between every lace detail, which makes it easier to keep track of your progress.
Conclusion
For me, this project reignited my love for knitting and reminded me why I fell in love with this craft in the first place. It’s happened twice in just a few months that I’ve completely lost my knitting mojo, and honestly, it’s tough. But patterns like the Darjeeling Top remind me how powerful knitting can be. Not only does it bring joy, but it also helps us reconnect with our creativity when life feels overwhelming.
If you’re feeling stuck or uninspired, I encourage you to try something new; whether it’s a lace knitting project like this one or any pattern that sparks your curiosity. With so many amazing designs out there, there’s always something waiting to reignite your passion.
I hope the Darjeeling Top inspires you as much as it did me. Have you tried it yet? Or do you have another go-to project for rediscovering your knitting mojo? Share your thoughts in the comments - I’d love to hear your stories!
Until then, happy knitting!
