My Goal for the Year: More Socks, More Challenges
My goal for this year was to knit more socks. As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been having some issues with knitting the second sock. I also experimented with the magic loop method, attempting to knit two socks simultaneously, but I didn't find it very comfortable, as the yarn was always tangling together. You can find the free pattern here!

Finding Inspiration on Pinterest
While browsing Pinterest for inspiration, I came across these gorgeous socks with a beautiful lace border. I instantly knew I wanted to knit them. The only challenge was that I couldn't find the pattern anywhere.

Designing the Lace Border
I began exploring the idea of designing the pattern myself. With my extensive stitch pattern book containing over 500 different stitches, I started searching through that book. My goal was to find a lace pattern that would create a border of at least 7 cm in height. Additionally, I envisioned the lace border being open at the back, as I planned to sew a button onto it. This button would give the illusion of the lace border being held together by the button, adding a unique and decorative touch to the socks.

Lessons Learned Along the Way
I usually use a traditional 4-ply sock yarn and a 2.5mm needle to knit my socks, and my usual cast-on is 64 stitches. However, for the lace border, I decided to cast on more stitches to ensure it would drape beautifully over the socks. This turned out to be the right decision, but I realized I could have started decreasing much sooner.
After completing the lace pattern, I added a couple of stockinette rows followed by a purl row. This was done to help the lace border lay nicely over the cuffs of the socks later on.

After completing the purl row, I found myself on the wrong side of the pattern and began closing everything in the round. During this round, I decreased 6 stitches. However, upon reflection, I realized that I should have implemented these decreases much earlier, perhaps during the plain stockinette rows. This adjustment would have likely resulted in a smoother and more seamless transition for the lace border as it joins with the main body of the sock.

It doesn't make much of a difference in the overall outcome, but I wanted to knit a second pair for my daughter, so I can test this theory then.

Completing the Socks with Reinforced Heels
After closing it into the round, I knitted a traditional sock with a reinforced heel. I love how these socks turned out; they have a feminine and vintage touch that I really like.
For this sock project, I used hand-dyed yarn that I purchased from a local artisan dyer here in my homeland. I absolutely love her hand-dyed yarn; she always creates such beautiful colors.

The Joy of Creating Something Beautiful
Knitting these socks brought me immense joy. Watching the project that I envisioned taking shape stitch by stitch reminded me of the small wonders we can create in our beautiful lives.
Until then, happy knitting!
