Why I Love Knitted Socks (But Struggle with the Second One)
I absolutely adore wearing knitted socks - they’re comfortable, uniquely beautiful, and full of personality. But if I’m being honest, knitting socks isn’t always my favorite activity.
It’s not a lack of skill - it’s the dreaded second sock syndrome that gets me every time. My last pair took a whopping nine months to complete! The first sock practically flies off the needles in two or three days, but then I hit a wall when it comes to repeating the process for the second sock.
To combat this frustration, I’m considering using circular needles and the magic loop technique for my next pair. Maybe this approach will help me overcome the familiar struggle of knitting that elusive second sock.

Yarn Choice for Summer Comfort
I knitted this pair of socks using Sandnes Tynn Line yarn in the color raspberry cream. This yarn, which I also used for the Popsicle Tank Top and the I Love Stripes Bandana, is exceptionally comfortable on hot summer days. So, I thought, why not use it for socks? Additionally, I reinforced the heel and toe to provide extra stability to the socks.

How to Knit the Beaded Cuff
I personally don't think that this bead cuff provides the grip you need to prevent the sock from slipping down the leg. That's why I personally choose to knit shorties. Despite this, the beads will undoubtedly look stunning and add a touch of sparkle when caught in the sunlight.
-
Preparation:
Thread your beads onto the yarn before you start knitting. Make sure your cast-on stitch count is an even number - I prefer the provisional cast-on method because it makes folding the edge easier. (You can find a detailed explanation of knitting with beads here; Additionally, I've created a tutorial for a provisional cast-on. For socks, you'll need one in the round.)
-
Pattern Instructions:
-
Rows 1–7: Knit all stitches.
-
Row 8: Purl all stitches.
-
Rows 9–11: Knit all stitches.
-
Row 12: Bring one bead from your yarn to your needle and work one knit stitch, ensuring the bead sits through the loop. Knit the next stitch. Repeat from * until the end of the round.
-
Row 13: Knit one stitch through the back loop, knit one. Repeat from * until the end of the round.
-
Rows 14–15: Knit all stitches.
-
-
Finishing the Cuff:
-
Fold the hem up so the purl ridge becomes the bottom edge, aligning the cast-on stitches with the live stitches on your left needle.
-
Knit each live stitch together with its corresponding cast-on stitch to secure the folded edge.

Reflections on My Sock-Knitting Journey
These socks turned out incredibly beautiful, and I'm looking forward to knitting more throughout the year! However, I don't want to put pressure on myself by setting a strict goal, such as one pair per month, because I fear that I would lose the joy of knitting socks completely.
In the end knitting should be a source of relaxation and creativity, not stress. So, I’ll take it one sock at a time - literally!
Until then, happy knitting!
