How to Knit Hats: Tips for Perfect Fit, Style, and Comfort
January 4, 2024Knitting the Diana Sweater: Transforming Yarn into a Work of Art

Knitting a sweater is a journey of creativity, patience, and satisfaction. It's a process that transforms a simple ball of yarn into a cozy, personal garment that carries the warmth and love of your hands.
Why I Love Melanie Rountree’s Patterns
The Diana Sweater is a stunning design by Melanie Rountree. I love her patterns because her designs are truly eye-catching and unique. Her patterns are written with so much love and consideration, she explains everything in detail and adds videos that guide you through the pattern.
Yes! I am a big fan of hers and I have knitted so much from her already: the Vine Pullover, the William’s hat, Little Belfalas, the amazing Anne Sweater, the child and adult version of it, and the Little Ithilien and its adult version.
But today, we want to talk about the Diana sweater, with its incredible ruffles and stitch pattern.
Choosing the Perfect Yarn
I worked this sweater with Knitting for Olive Merino and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in the color Ice Blue. I read that the Mohair yarn can feel a bit itchy, but Anna doesn't have a problem with it, and she is really sensitive when it comes to that. She loves that soft feeling from the Mohair and Merino yarn on her skin.
A Little Mishap at the Christmas Market
I actually lost a few yarn balls at the Christmas market we were visiting. The market was a two-hour train ride away from our home, and I wanted to finish one sleeve in that time. I was a bit distracted, so I forgot the sweater at home, which was my luck, and just took the wool with me. I don't know where or when it happened, but when we got home, the bag with the yarn was just gone.
I didn't mention that I was in a test knit with a deadline, and the delivery over Christmas can take quite some time. I purchased the new yarn immediately after arriving at home, but it still took nine days to be delivered.
Fortunately, I didn't take everything with me on that day, so I still had some yarn left, and I finished this sweater with only 1 g of mohair yarn left.
Customizing the Design
I decided to work another button loop than recommended. I know this technique from sewing, and that way, it doesn't stretch out that easily. Furthermore, I am planning to make a video later on and link it to this post.
The Star of the Show: Those Charming Ruffles
The ruffles as the star of this garment are adding a charming and playful touch to it.
Melanie created another stunning knit garment for our little princesses and outdid herself again!
If you’re looking for a project that combines elegance, creativity, and fun, the Diana Sweater is an excellent choice. Its unique design and customizable features make it a joy to knit and wear.
Until then, happy knitting! 🧶
